Walnut Creek Intermediate (WCI) is built on a strong foundation of parent support, community involvement and a strong commitment to providing our students with the best possible instruction. WCI is committed to delivering a demanding and engaging curriculum, using best teaching practices; cultivating student, staff and community pride in our school; developing an atmosphere in which students appreciate and value diversity and take on personal responsibility; using resources to implement risky student interventions; and building relationships between students, staff, parents; Our culture is culturally diverse and ethnically diverse.

Walnut Creek Intermediate School (WCI) is located near the busy northern California City of Walnut Creek, a California Gold Ribbon School with an Examplary Visual and Performing Arts program. The city of Walnut Creek provides the community proximity to San Francisco at the crossroads of Contra Costa County as well as the rural enjoyment of more than 2500 acres of protected open space. Walnut Creek is a major shopping and corporate centre.

WCI serves 1,100 students in grades 6, 7, 8 and is the Walnut Creek School District's only comprehensive middle school with a total student population of about 3,500. Students attend school every day for seven periods, with Jazz Band providing an eighth period. Sixth graders take one math session, one science period, and a total of three-period English and Social Studies. They are included in the exploratory wheel or band, as well. Seventh graders are enrolled in a system of two-periods, one Science, Math, and two elective classes. Eighth graders are enrolled in English, Social Studies, Math, Science, and two elective courses in one year. The students are enrolled in one physical training year.

Certified staff consists of one principal, two assistant administrators, one full and one part-time counselor and 45 full or part-time teachers. Additional staff include a licensed librarian, four information assistants and one day teacher. We have 20 full and part-time classified employees, including office staff, custodial staff, cafeteria workers and noon-duty supervisors, as well as special education paraprofessionals.

This year, Walnut Creek Intermediate revised its Statement of Vision and Mission to better reflect the new District Vision and Mission as well as the community at large. They are: Vision: inspiring self-reliant, open-minded, and caring lifelong learners, who contribute positively to the global community. Their mission is to educate students in a rigorous, welcoming and engaging atmosphere that respects diversity and encourages creative and imaginative thinking while fostering responsible citizenship.
