Broadway Plaza is a shopping mall in downtown Walnut Creek. On October 11, 1951, Macerich opened and owned the shopping center. Nordstrom, Macy's and Marcus anchor the mall. The square has numerous shops and restaurants including Tesla Motors, Athleta, Kate Spade New York, P.F. China Bistro. Chang, Amazon Books.

History

The 38-store Broadway Plaza opened on October 18, 1951. The mall's main anchors were JCPenney, Sears, Woolworths, Joseph Magnin and a Lucky Supermarket. Capwell's Oakland department store opened in 1954 as the center's fifth anchor.

Lucky was replaced in 1973 by the second Northern California Bullock department store sold to Nordstrom in 1984.

Capwell's became Emporium-Capwell in 1979, converted to Macy's in 1995, while I.Magnin was converted that same year to a separate Macy's Men's store.

Neiman Marcus joined Broadway Plaza as the first of the major improvement centers in March 2012. Plans for comprehensive mall expansion, with new retail space of 300,000 sq ft (28,000 m2), were approved in December 2013. The expansion consolidated the two Macy's stores into an enlarged single building, replaced old parking garages with modern facilities, and added a new retail building on two floors between existing Macy's and Nordstrom stores. The first built tenants opened in September 2016, while the Christmas shopping season saw the opening of new tenants and a two-level Zara store instead of the old Macy's Men's site. An additional phase, replacing two multi-tenant buildings with an Apple flagship store, began construction in early 2017 and opened in late 2018.

Broadway Plaza has become a shopping destination for many East Bay people looking for medium to high-end clothing and exclusive shopping experiences. We have friends from Montclair, Piedmont, and elsewhere making the 20-minute drive to choose upscale. With anchor stores like Nordstrom, Macy's & Neiman Marcus, and experiences like Apple and Tesla ' new tech.' It's a place to seek. Our favorite thing is to enjoy the many outdoor dining trendy eateries.
