Remote work recently is becoming popular. And as more and more businesses allow people to work from home, they soon find out that a few problems come with remote work. It's easy for remote workers to feel lonely, and it can be hard to maintain a good company culture when much of the staff is spread out. It can all take a hit with teamwork, morale, and belonging.
Remote jobs needn't be segregated. Offer workers the tools they need to develop their culture and share it. This can involve a dedicated channel in your platform of communication, a formal meeting, or a company time gaming session.
Many organizations and their workers have endured what could have been identified at first as a battle to get to grips with the transition. Operating mainly through video calling and tech-based networking environments, engaging in a way that has now changed to take place exclusively online has undoubtedly affected the impulsive spark of interactions, imagination and exchange of ideas that used to happen in real time.
Where seminars and team meetings were previously arranged to put people together in person from potentially diverse teams. The ability to provide ice-breakers, joviality, strategizing and the essential relation of different personalities in environments that produced diversity of thinking was previously carried with them by these experiences.
Whenever you see something from the big wide world that captures your attention, put it on display. It can be any discovery: an awesome ad in a magazine, an unusually arranged menu, or even a well-written email that made you laugh. The more provocative, the better! If you have space on a wall near you, eke out a spot where you can display everything. Or, if you work an open office where wall space is at a minimum, do it virtually on Pinterest.
Yet there are ways to recreate the innovative sparks and enthusiasm of teams that would traditionally have worked together in person, despite the difficulties.
In a study commissioned by Google, which has about 100,000 employees spread across 150 cities, in over 50 countries, across five continents. Their People Innovation Lab, PiLab, found that despite having a team scattered around the globe, there are a variety of approaches they and other companies can follow to improve collaboration, promote well-being and accelerate innovation.
