Do I Need A Physical Address For Google My Business?

Creating a Google My Business Account Without a Specific Location

A Google My Business (GMB) account is a tool for companies to build a Google Maps presence for themselves. If you want to be identified locally while people are looking for your services, a GMB listing is important.

Many companies providing local amenities, such as vacation clubs or swimming classes, operate from a variety of addresses. Others work anywhere they are required in a local area, such as mobile car mechanics. Many of these organizations either don't build a GMB account because they don't want their home address available in Google, or because they don't know from which addresses to choose. This can become an impediment to locating these companies for prospective customers.

Therefore, this post discusses how to build a listing for Google My Business without a particular venue, but still making it easier to locate your business for potential local customers!

Step 1 – Get Started on Your Account

Firstly, visit https://www.google.com/business/ and click ‘Start Now’.

Step 2 – Enter Your Business Name

Enter your company's name and click on 'Next'. Often include in your name your services too. This will mean that as individuals search for your services, you appear higher in Google Maps. For eg, '[business name]-Kids Holiday Club in York' should be called a children's holiday club in York.

Step 3 – Tell Google You Don’t Want to Display an Address

Make sure you check the 'No' option because it tells Google to hide your address. Don't worry, in the next step, you will be adding the areas that you serve!

Step 4 – Tell Google Where you Serve Your Customers

For the critical bit now! By entering the names of towns, counties, regions, or postcodes, add all the places that you represent. Doing this will make sure that your business listing will appear as people search for your services from the places you've listed.

Step 5 – Verify Your Business

To add a few more specifics on what you do, follow the last few steps. Finally, you will be asked to enter your corporate mailing address. Google will use this address to give you a postcard for verification, but the address will be withheld from the public. To finish making your listings, click 'Next'.

Now you are well on your way to raising your chances of being discovered on Google Maps. When you begin to gather Google feedback and make Google Articles, not only this, but your website will eventually rank higher in Google Maps.
